Today your child will be coming home with a piece of paper containing their log-in information for Raz-Kids, an online platform to listen to and read various interactive e-books, in both English and Spanish.

Your child is encouraged to access Raz-Kids on a weekly basis, listening to at least 2 Spanish stories a week.  If your child is beginning to read, they will be encouraged to read at their level.

HALLOWEEN

Tuesday/Thursday kinders are invited to wear their Halloween costumes on Thursday, October 27.

The costumes must be worn the whole day and must be appropriate for school environment meaning no violent or inappropriate content or messaging. Accessories such as swords, guns, knives, weapons etc. should not be brought to school.  As costumes should not impede learning, we ask that no mask even if it’s a half face mask be worn to school.  Those wanting to wear COVID masks are welcome to. Due to dietary restrictions and preferences, no food should be brought to school for sharing purposes.  While well intended, other non-food treats should also be not brought to school (goodie/loot bags).

Parent Teacher Conferences Survey

During the pandemic, many pieces shifted online, including Parent Teacher Conferences.  Some families indicated that they preferred them online as it allowed flexibility in timing and attendance.  We have formal opportunities for connections with families throughout the year.  Thank you for providing feedback for the format and method delivery of our conferences.  Please note that due to logistical parameters that are not in our control, we may not be able to implement all feedback.  Thank you for providing your input.  The survey will close October 28, 2022 at 4pm.

20 de octubre

This week, we took some of our learnings outside. We observed the fall changes in the trees and went on a fall colour hunt.

We used loose parts to create a face and practiced identifying the face parts in Spanish.

Check out our first math journal activity below.

Please ask your child what sounds letters p, b, t, d, f, and v make. We are focusing on the sounds the alphabet letters make, and these are the ones we have practiced so far.

REMINDERS

School photos retakes were originally scheduled to happen on October 17 & 18 have been rescheduled to November 2 & 3.  If you would like your child to have photo retakes, please email your child's teacher to let them know. Class Photos will also happen on the same days.

Starting on Monday, October 17, 2022 we will be collecting food/non-perishable items for the Veteran’s Food Drive. There will be boxes set up at the front and back door for food drop off. 13 de octubre

Please note that photo retakes have been rescheduled from October 17 & 18 to November 2 & 3.  Please let your child's teacher know that you would like retakes.  Class photos will also be taken at this time.  All class photos and K-5 retakes will be taken on November 2, with the exception of the Tuesday/Thursday Kindergarten class who will have their class photos and retakes on November 3.

This week, we continued working in our 5 Senses Thankful Books. We drew something we are thankful for the taste of, as well as the smell of.

In math, we rotated through various math centers, practicing pattern-making with colours, numeral recognition in Spanish, as well as counting the number of letters in our names.

We are continuing to practice identifying the face parts in Spanish.

Ojos - eyes
Nariz - nose
Boca - mouth
Dientes - teeth
Orejas - ears

We are listening to and learning the song 5 calabazas

During snack time, we watch Spanish videos.  One of our favourites to watch is Salsa.  So far, we have watched episodes from Season One up to episode 12.  If you are looking for a way to support your child at home, please have them review these episodes.  Repetition is key when learning a new language.
